Dragon Ball Z returns to print in full color!

TacoBot @ Big Shiny Robot

Everyone knows Dragon Ball Z, from the deeply devoted fans to the anime haters. It’s a fact that everyone in the world is familiar with the popular Japanese series whether the familiarity comes from hearing about the 3 episode long yelling fights or from devoted fans who’ll correct you about the correct power level Goku had when he fought Vegeta and Nappa (It’s 8000, not 9000…).

The series printed run ended in 1995 and fans haven’t really had anything new in the manga department since then, until now. A couple of months ago it was announced that Akira Toriyama would release the manga again in full color. The announcement came from Japanese magazine V-Jump, stating that the release of the series will start on February 4, 2013.

This is a bunch of Japanese stuff you probably don't understand.

Each story arc (Saiyan Saga, Frieza Saga, Cell Saga, and theMajin Buu Saga.) will be release in several volumes, for example the Saiyan Saga is going to be collected in three volumes, the Frieza Saga, starting in japan on April 4, in five volumes and so forth.

Each of the Dragon Ball Z series is going to be released in physical format, with the original Dragon Ball series (the one where Goku is a kid) being released in digital, colored format. However, a physical release has not been mentioned for Dragon Ball. An American release hasn’t been announced yet for the printed comics either, but with the fan following, an American release does seem inevitable.

I swore it was cel shaded at first glance!

Not content with just adding color to the manga, Toriyama is also providing commentary throughout the series, giving insight into the world and characters of Dragon Ball. Fans that want more information than just commentary can also pick up the reference book Dragon Ball Chōzenshū, being released in four monthly installments, also starting on February 4.

Fans of the anime can also look forward to seeing the newest feature length movie, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods. The new movie comes out in Japan in March.

Dragon Ball Z Fans, is it just me or does this feel a little too familiar?
